(Ian 5/22) Good questions Dave. This is why the story of creation is so
ridiculous.
Science has shown that the universe is well over 6,000 years old so we have
to go to
evolution. If someone wants to throw creation into it, i.e. creation through
evolution, then i have no way of argueing that point.
(DAVE 5/30) Ian: No, you don't really - nor do I have any way to prove
such a theory, if it is what I believed. Which makes the discussion very
interesting, and gives us all something in common - curiosity. Although I
acknowledge the tremendous discoveries of science, it is very apparent that
science hasn't discovered all there is to discover (as our daily newspapers
and periodicals show us) - so to rely strictly on what science has shown us,
may not be the best course (and I acknowledge you are open to new
information). I, personally, don't think science has shown us a very
significant portion of all there is to know of our universe - evolution is,
at best, a viable working theory and, as far as the age of the universe, it
again, has at best, theories - are there other variables out there we have
yet to discover? I have no idea, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are.
So, no, I don't think any of us have enough to go on as far as tackling,
conclusively, this issue of the age of the universe, and the possible role
of evolution in it. This is why I really have no definite position on
either of these two issues.

(Ian 5/22) David, there are too many ridiculous stories in the Bible for me to
believe in the God of the Bible. The creation story, A talking serpent, Men
living
hundreds of years, God enjoying a black mass sacrifice, A flood 5.5 miles
high that
covered all the mountains, Noah and the ark, and I'm just scratching the
surface. If
a god created this univers(s), it had to do so through evolution. There is
no reason
for this god to reveal itself to us and there is no reason for it to want us to
worship it - or even believe in it. What's the point?
(DAVE 5/30) Ian: I don't agree that if god created this universe he HAD to
do it through evolution - if God does exist, as an omnipotent being,
evolution wouldn't be required. It could be a method by which he does it
(or parts of it), but it wouldn't be mandatory. As far as his reasons for
revealing himself to us, that is a good question, which backs us up a step:
if he created us in the first place, it must have been for a reason - his
revelation to us would only be the manifestation of that reason. It makes
perfect sense that he reveals himself to us, as he made the "effort" to
create us. The real question is "why did he create us?". Do you agree?

(Ian 5/22) I knew what you meant. I was only joshing you. It's been a rather
cool
spring even down here. It started early but it's just like some people who
get up
early. They (it) just can't get moving. I hope things improve for you.
(DAVE 5/30) Ian: Thanks - they have taken off unbelievably - it has been
organized mayhem, at best - I am very thankful though, we finally are
chipping away at our losses the past month. People are dying for any sort
of colour in their yards - anything.
Regards, Ian.
Dave.
