I checked archives (August '97) when Bell first appeared on Errancy to
see if this has always been his modus operandi. One of his first posts
was concerning that oft-parroted phrase "unity of the scriptures".
After Bell claimed such unity, he asked Yoel to substantiate his claim
that there was much DIS-unity between the OT and NT. After Yoel
provided some examples, guess what? Poof, Bell dropped that thread
like a hot potato.
When he does get involved in a thread and finds himself in over his
head, he usually
1. finds some quibble as an excuse (word definition, "motivation"
behind a question, etc.) to cease debating.
2. replies that his opponent is simply "wrong" (see thread where Ed
Tyler posted 60 odd scholars who claimed a verse in the NT was added
later)
3. claims when caught in a logical trap that he trusts God's wisdom
more than Fisher's (or was it Epler's)
intellect. Of course, here he simply couldn't understand a little
college-level statistical theory.
We never did get an answer on how Noah kept the ark cold enough for a
polar bear. Bell will of course claim that we never substantiated that
Noah didn't sail before the polar bear was found to be extant by
carbon dating (40,000 years ago). Of course if Noah did sail before
that, Jesus' geneology in Luke 3 is somewhat ridiculous (not that it
isn't ridiculous already).
Lately of course Bell has become like the Prarie Dog, popping his head
out for the occasional ad-hominem (by the way Matt, there is no such
thing as a "load of crock". You called Crea's argument a load of pots)
then ducking back into his cubby.
