It proves that his "personal experience" was so strong that he changed
his name, and doesn't recognize "Cat" anymore.

I wonder if Shawn or Jason will tell us what makes his "personal
experience" false, and their's true?

Adnan:
In one of his interview he tells a story that when he was once swimming
in Malibu Beach he almost drowned. At that moment he says he turned to God
and
said, "O God if you save me, I will work for you." Exactly at that moment a
wave turned and pushed him towards the shore.

PS: At that time he was not a Muslim. I guess Allah saved him so he can work
for Allah, as he is doing now.

POOBAH
A very sad, personal moment I remember quite clearly was ten or more years
ago when the current Ayatollah of Iran declared the fatwah against Salman
Rushdie. Yusuf Islam (the name of the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens)
was interviewed and supported the notion of killing Rushdie for his
writings; his argument was essentially that Rushdie was just one man, but he
had offended a billion people.

I found it difficult to believe that a man who at one time could right
"Peace Train" was now advocating murder over ink squiggles on paper. I
realized that the musician had been a pretty messed individual, and by no
means considered him a role-model, but I found it almost incomprehensible
that one man could make such aan about face. I sat well into the night
listening to "Peace Train" over & over, with tears on my face.

Religion. You can keep it.
